In an effort to reduce the amount of SPAM that is received by our mail servers we currently use several RBLs (Realtime Blackhole Lists), such as the ones listed below, to help screen out spammers from sending their unwanted mail over our mail servers. How this works is that various IP addresses are listed in the RBL, and any incoming messages from those servers are prevented from entering the system. The RBL usually lists server IP Addresses from ISPs whose customers are responsible for the SPAM and from ISPs whose servers are hijacked for relaying SPAM. Often this is a result of an email server being identified as an "Open Relay". As subscribers to the RBL, email service providers will know from which IP Addresses to block traffic.
In order to correct the issue, we suggest the following options:
- Request that the ISP who owns the IP address contact the administrator of the RBL to have the IP address removed
- Encourage the user to switch to a different ISP that does not permit SPAM being sent over their mail servers
We at myhosting.com are unable to edit the RBL and we cannot get an IP address removed for you.
If you are unsuccessful in encouraging the ISP to rectify the problem, or encouraging the user to switch ISPs, then you can use our Whitelist feature from the email administration page at http://emailadmin.myhosting.com. Simply log in with your admin email account and password, and click on Whitelist under Mail Host Properties. This will allow you to enter the IP address of the senders mail server. You can usually obtain this by viewing the bounce-back email that the sender received when trying to contact you by email.
Although this will correct the issue and allow you to receive email from the user, we highly recommend using one of the other methods suggested above. If enough users complain to their service providers about being listed in the RBLs, then perhaps they’ll change their policies on allowing spammers to use their services. We feel that it is in the best interest of each ISP to ensure that their servers are not listed in the RBL lists, and diligent ISPs who are dedicated to the services they provide will do their best to ensure that any listed servers are removed permanently from such lists.
We understand that this policy and procedure may be an inconvenience for you, but in order to help reduce the massive volume of SPAM which is received daily, such actions needed to be taken. We will do our best to ensure that we make use of only the most reputable RBL lists, and in turn we encourage anyone affected to contact their ISP and strongly encourage them to seek delisting from the RBL in question.
