[Server 2008] Adding a Domain to IIS 7

Windows Server 2008

Using Default Site

If you have decided that you will be using the default site that is setup in IIS to host your website all you will need to do is place your files in the "C:\inetpub\wwwroot" directory on your server.

Adding New Site

If you want to leave the default site in IIS alone and setup separate site for your domain you would need to do the following.

  • Start Internet Information Server (IIS)
  • Expand the + beside your VPS server name and then expand the "Sites" folder.

  • Enter your domain name in the site name field (minus the wwww.) and set the physical path to C:\inetpub\mydomain.com\wwwroot. You will need to make sure that you have already created this location on your C:\ drive. Choose an IP that you want to use for the site from the drop down menu. Next enter the host name as your domain without the www. Then press the OK button.
