Using the Backup Feature on your VPS with cPanel (RV Skin Blue)
Click here for a video tutorial
How to use the backup feature in cPanel.
This demo assumes you've already logged in to cPanel.
Now let's take a look at the backup options available through cPanel.
1) Click Backup.
This is the main backup screen, where you can back up, and/or restore the files in your hosting account.
This is the manual backup section of the backup screen. There are several ways to back up your files, depending on which files you want to back up.
You can backup only the home directory of your website by clicking on Home Directory.
You can backup a MySQL database from within your account by clicking under Databases. (Note: There is no MySQL database listed here because there is no database in this account.)
Or you can backup only those files in specific subdomains or filters by clicking under Forwarders or Filters.
If this case, we are going to perform a databases backup and save it to a remote FTP server.
2) Click the Databases link.
From the drop-down box, set the backup destination to Remote FTP Server.
Enter the email address where you want the complete report of this backup to be sent.
Enter the Remote Server where you want the backup to go, the FTP username, and the FTP password.
3) Click Generate Backup.
That's it! We're just created a full backup to the remote FTP server we specified.
4) Click Go Back.
Now let's back up only the home directory to our local computer.
5) Click Home Directory.
We've successfully backed up the home directory to our local computer. Scroll right.
Now let's restore this backup we just made.
Enter the location of the backup or click Browse.
6) Click Upload.
The files have been restored!
This is the end of the tutorial. You now know how to use the backup utility and can manually back up your files as often as you wish.
